Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar

Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar is the second-largest city in Khazural and the primary center of trade, wealth, and economic influence within the dwarven realm. Known as The Golden Vein, it functions as Khazural’s principal gateway to the outside world, drawing merchants, envoys, craftsmen, and travelers from across Arkanthys. Positioned along the eastern slopes of the Elderspine, it is one of the few dwarven holds with extensive surface-facing infrastructure. Nearly one hundred thousand inhabitants reside within the city, with population levels fluctuating due to constant trade movement.

Zulfbar is defined by exchange, regulation, and controlled openness. It is the point where dwarven tradition meets external influence.

City Layout and Geography

Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar spans a broad section of the eastern mountainside, combining terrace-cut districts, reinforced surface halls, cliffside structures, and deep subterranean networks. The Outer Ring extends across the slopes as a dense sprawl of markets, workshops, and trade houses. Beneath it, lower levels connect to mines, arcanum veins, and controlled access routes into the Deeproots.

The city opens through monumental gates carved into the mountain face, marked by reliefs depicting early dwarven trade expeditions. Unlike other holds, Zulfbar maintains direct access to the outside world, though all entry points remain guarded and regulated.

Trade and Prosperity

Zulfbar operates as the economic core of Khazural. All sanctioned trade entering or leaving the realm passes through the city. Its markets host goods from multiple regions, and its districts operate in a continuous state of exchange. Despite the presence of foreign merchants, all trade is governed by dwarven law and registry systems.

The city’s wealth is derived primarily from arcanum, a rare green-glowing ore found deep within the mountains. The majority of Zulfbar’s economic output comes from its extraction, refinement, and controlled export. Every unit of arcanum is catalogued, tested, and recorded in the Arcanum Registry before leaving the city.

This control grants Zulfbar its dominant economic position within Khazural.

Governance

Zulfbar is governed by the Council of Guilds, a collective body composed of the city’s most powerful guildmasters, refinery overseers, and trade authorities. Each member holds equal authority, and decisions are made through structured deliberation.

The most influential body within the council is the Warden-Guild of Flame & Stone. Its leader serves as the Voice of the Council, representing Zulfbar in dealings with Baraz-Kronn and foreign powers. The current Voice, Lady Thorra Gorek, is known for strict adherence to trade law, controlled negotiation practices, and firm oversight of arcanum distribution.

Culture and Society

Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar is the most outward-facing and culturally diverse city in Khazural. Foreign residents occupy designated districts within the Outer Ring, contributing to a visible mixture of crafts, materials, and techniques. Hybrid works are common, including combined dwarven and foreign designs in metalwork, textiles, and architecture. Despite this, the internal structure of the city remains strictly dwarven. Trade, law, and daily function follow Khazurish principles, and The Deep Rhythm governs work cycles and production.

The result is a controlled contrast between external diversity and internal order.

Role within Khazural

Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar functions as Khazural’s economic center and external interface. It regulates trade, supports diplomatic exchange, and ensures the controlled distribution of resources. While Baraz-Kronn governs law and tradition, Zulfbar manages expansion, adaptation, and external relations.

Its position makes it essential to the stability and influence of the dwarven realm.
