Algar the White Wolf
Algar, known as the White Wolf, is the Archdruid of the Skarnn and the sole custodian of the White Forest, the last untouched expanse of primordial woodland in Grimhold. The land answers to him, and the Skarnn accept that without dispute. He exists outside the political structure of Nifleheim. His authority predates the clans, the Jarldom, and the presence of the Elegy in the north. He represents the will of the land rather than the will of its people.
Algar is rarely seen within Nifleheim. When he enters the city, it is understood that the matter at hand lies beyond politics.
Appearance
Algar appears as an older Skarnn man, tall and lean, with long white hair worn loose or bound with leather ties. His beard is thick and untrimmed, often braided with bone, antler fragments, and carved runes.
His skin is marked by age, weather, and ritual scarring. He wears layered hides and furs, pale in tone, treated with ash and lichen. Moss, feathers, and dried herbs are woven into his garments. He carries the scent of pine, cold earth, and stone. His eyes are pale gray, nearly white, reflecting light rather than absorbing it.
Personality
Algar is deliberate and restrained. He does not rush decisions and rarely offers explanation unless required. He does not adhere to tradition out of obligation, nor does he reject change by default. All actions are measured against balance. What preserves it is permitted. What disrupts it is opposed.
He shows no interest in ambition, status, or legacy. His loyalty is to the continuity of the land itself. Those aligned with that purpose are tolerated or aided. Those who threaten it are dealt with directly.
Algar serves as the final authority in matters concerning land, sacred sites, and ecological balance. Even Jarl Grimwulf defers to his judgment in these areas. His authority is not enforced through position, but through necessity.
History
Algar’s age is unknown. Some claim he has held the role of Archdruid for over a century, while others believe the position is sustained through ritual rather than lineage. Algar has never clarified this. He became known as the White Wolf during a period of expansion into the White Forest, when several clans attempted to exploit its resources. Algar ended these incursions through a combination of negotiation, ritual action, and the destruction of those who refused to withdraw.
Since that time, the forest has remained untouched.
