House Brimgaruun

House Brimgaruun is one of the Five Great Forgehouses of Khazural and the living embodiment of the Echo of Consequence, the foundational principle that every action bears cost, every exchange creates obligation, and every strike upon the world yields return. As masters of diplomacy, trade, logistics, administration, and foreign commerce, Brimgaruun controls the vast majority of Khazural’s economic and political dealings beyond its borders.

Among the Five Forgehouses, none possess broader influence over the machinery of prosperity. While other houses command stone, law, memory, or war, Brimgaruun commands dependence.

The house is currently led by Kazrik Brimgaruun, one of the wealthiest and most politically connected dwarves in Khazural.

Philosophy and Doctrine

House Brimgaruun teaches that all things are transaction. To them, power is not seized solely through force or bloodline, but through leverage, exchange, and calculated consequence. Every favor creates debt. Every alliance carries price. Every action, no matter how generous it appears, must yield return.

Their public creed is one of prosperity and stability:

“Through order of exchange, the realm prospers.”

Privately, however, many within the house live by a harsher truth:

Nothing given should return less than double.

Duties and Authority

House Brimgaruun oversees the overwhelming majority of Khazural’s diplomacy, trade, logistics, and external administration. They negotiate treaties, coordinate imports and exports, manage merchant routes, supervise state logistics, maintain trade accords, and administer much of the bureaucratic machinery that keeps Khazural functioning beyond its borders.

Though other houses retain the right to conduct independent dealings, Brimgaruun’s expertise and infrastructure are so indispensable that most employ the house to handle their external affairs regardless. This dependence grants Brimgaruun leverage over nearly every major institution in Khazural.

Economic Power

It is estimated that over 95% of Khazural’s trade passes through Brimgaruun hands in some capacity.

Their greatest external investment lies in Baraz-Darak-Zulfbar, the trade-city upon which much of Khazural’s external commerce depends. Unlike the other Forgehouses, whose power remains centered in Baraz-Kronn, Brimgaruun has poured enormous wealth into the city, transforming it into the beating heart of dwarven trade.

They do not control the Khazural treasury itself, that authority remains with the High King and the Embermint, but Brimgaruun controls much of the machinery through which wealth enters the kingdom.

Political Influence

House Brimgaruun’s power stems from strategic indispensability. By facilitating trade, diplomacy, logistics, and inter-house commerce, they have positioned themselves as a necessary intermediary in the affairs of nearly every major power bloc within Khazural.

They can enrich a house by prioritizing its contracts, routes, and agreements. They can cripple one by redirecting those same assets elsewhere.

Few houses dare openly antagonize Brimgaruun for long.

Internal Culture

Members of House Brimgaruun are raised to be polished, persuasive, and relentlessly calculating. Charm, etiquette, rhetoric, and negotiation are considered essential virtues. House members are trained from youth to read motive, exploit weakness, and identify value in every interaction.

Brimgaruun prides itself on refinement and sophistication, often presenting a face of courtesy and diplomacy unmatched by the harsher Forgehouses. Behind this veneer lies ruthless opportunism. Within the house, altruism without return is regarded as stupidity.

Ambition and Corruption

Among the Five Forgehouses, Brimgaruun is widely considered the most politically ambitious. Unlike Thaldrazan, which seeks power through force, or Zarak-Vorr through legitimacy, Brimgaruun seeks power through total systemic dependence.

Their ultimate ambition is believed by many to be the Ember Throne itself.

By securing kingship, they would gain influence over the Embermint, the final major financial institution beyond their direct reach. To their critics, Brimgaruun does not seek to rule Khazural.

It seeks to own it.

Foreign Influence

House Brimgaruun maintains deep economic ties throughout the wider world. They are among the largest foreign donors and investors in the city of Joruvin in Aranna, along with numerous other external trade hubs. Publicly, these investments are framed as efforts to strengthen diplomacy and secure prosperity for Khazural. Privately, many suspect Brimgaruun launders influence as readily as it moves coin.

Reputation

House Brimgaruun is respected for its competence and distrusted for its motives. To common dwarves, they are the smiling merchants and silver-tongued diplomats who keep Khazural wealthy.

To rival houses, they are dangerous manipulators whose courtesy masks constant calculation. Among the Five Forgehouses, many believe a simple truth:

Brimgaruun never does favors.
