Maya Aurellian

Maya Aurellian was the first child of Gabriel Aurellian and Althea Aurellian. Born prematurely in Ostagar during the final years of the Third Age, she lived only a short time. Her death had a lasting impact on both of her parents, particularly Gabriel, and is closely associated with the events that preceded the Aurellian Rebellion.

Maya is not publicly commemorated in the same way as other figures of the era. Her memory remains largely confined to private spaces within the Aurellian family and the Imperial Palace.

Birth and Condition

Maya was born prematurely during winter in Ostagar. From birth, she showed signs of severe physical weakness. Her breathing was unstable, and her condition required constant care.

Althea devoted herself entirely to the child’s survival, applying all available healing knowledge. Despite this, Maya’s condition did not improve. Her early life was marked by uncertainty, with survival measured in days rather than years.

The Temple Incident

During a sudden decline in Maya’s condition, Gabriel and Althea brought her to the Temple of Ylara, seeking clerical intervention.

They were refused.

The attending cleric determined that no aid would be given. The reasoning provided reflected the prevailing doctrine of the time, in which weakness was not treated as something to be preserved. This event marked a decisive moment in Gabriel’s life.

Shortly after, the temple was set on fire.

Death

Maya Aurellian died shortly after the temple incident, held by her parents. Her burial was small and private. No clergy were present. Gabriel never spoke of her publicly and did not allow her death to be used in support of the rebellion. Her memory remained a personal matter rather than a political one.

Legacy

Maya’s life is not recorded through public acts or achievements, but through its impact on those closest to her. Her death is closely linked to Gabriel Aurellian’s rejection of divine authority and is often referenced in historical accounts as one of the events that contributed to the formation of the rebellion.

Within the Imperial Palace, a private memorial depicting Gabriel, Althea, and Maya stands as one of the few formal acknowledgments of her existence.
