Gabriel Aurellian was the central figure of the Aurellian Rebellion and the first Emperor of the Aurellian Empire. Born in Ostagar to working-class parents, he rose from conditions shaped by divine rule to lead the most significant uprising in recorded history. His rebellion ended the rule of the Pantheon and marked the close of the Second Age. He later ruled for one hundred and ninety years, establishing the foundations of the Empire and overseeing the reconstruction of a world destabilized by The Godwar.

Gabriel is remembered as a mortal who rejected divine authority and replaced it with a system built on human governance and law.

Early Life

Gabriel was born to Varys and Aria Aurellian in Ostagar during the final years of the Pantheon’s rule. His family relied on factory labor for survival until industrial production was dismantled to prioritize temple construction. Both of his parents were conscripted into unpaid labor. During this period, Gabriel fell severely ill. Treatment required clerical intervention, which was inaccessible to his family. He survived, but lost his right eye. These conditions were not unusual. They reflected the broader reality of life under divine administration.

Education and Personal Life

Despite his circumstances, Gabriel entered the Scriptorium of Ostagar, where he trained in arcane disciplines. There he met Winrey Auric, whose technical skill complemented Gabriel’s work in enchantment. During this period, Gabriel married Althea and began to establish a stable life. Their daughter, Maya, was born prematurely and died shortly after birth. An attempt to seek aid from the Temple of Ylara was refused. This event marked a turning point in Gabriel’s life and directly influenced his later actions.

Imprisonment and Escape

Following increased scrutiny from Oculus, Gabriel was identified as a destabilizing figure and detained. He was held within Ocularis, where he was subjected to interrogation. During his imprisonment, his mother, Aria Aurellian, died in Ostagar after repeated failed attempts to reach him.

Gabriel was freed through an operation led by Winrey Auric and Torr Barradan. Following his escape, he became a fugitive, and his activities transitioned from isolated dissent to organized resistance.

The Rebellion

The rebellion formed gradually as support gathered across multiple regions. Early successes, including the fall of Caellbruck Hold, demonstrated that coordinated resistance against divine forces was possible. The execution of Rhea Auric for defiance further escalated tensions and solidified support for open revolt. What began as localized resistance developed into a sustained conflict between mortal forces and the Pantheon’s loyalists.

The Godwar

The conflict expanded into a full-scale war that reshaped the world. Advances in arcane engineering, led in part by Winrey Auric, allowed mortal forces to counter divine capabilities. The war culminated in a direct confrontation between Gabriel Aurellian and Thalor, resulting in the collapse of the Pantheon’s authority and the end of the Second Age.

The Crowning

Following the conclusion of the war, Gabriel was crowned in Targon, which became the center of the new imperial structure. His rule was not framed as divine succession, but as the establishment of a mortal-led order. His coronation speech defined the principles of the new age, emphasizing independence from divine authority and the responsibility of mortals to govern themselves.

Gabriel ruled for one hundred and ninety years. His early reign focused on reconstruction and stabilization. Systems of governance were established, labor protections were introduced, and arcane institutions were reorganized under controlled oversight. Religious worship of the former Pantheon was prohibited. The Empire was structured to prevent the re-emergence of divine control over mortal life.

His later years were marked by stability. Governance transitioned from consolidation to continuity, with increasing emphasis on law, succession, and institutional strength.

Death

Gabriel Aurellian died peacefully after a long reign. He was buried in the Imperial Necropolis beneath the Seat of the Empire. His wife Althea was laid to rest beside him.
