Aria Aurellian

Aria Aurellian, mother of Gabriel Aurellian and wife to Varys Aurellian, lived a life defined by labor, hardship, and loss. A factory worker later forced into temple service, she endured the conditions imposed during the final years of divine rule. Her death remained one of the defining personal losses in Gabriel’s life.

Aria held no title and commanded no authority, yet her life is closely tied to the conditions that preceded the fall of the Pantheon. She is often understood as representative of the ordinary lives shaped and constrained by divine demands during the late Third Age.

Appearance

Aria was slender and carried the physical endurance common among laborers. Her dark hair was usually tied back for work, and signs of age appeared earlier than expected due to prolonged strain. Her expression was often described as calm, though marked by fatigue.

Personality

Aria was known for her patience and quiet resilience. She maintained a sense of compassion despite the conditions around her and remained deeply protective of her family. Those who knew her described her as steady and kind, even in circumstances that offered little reason for either.

Life and Hardship

Aria spent much of her life working in the factories of Ostagar alongside her husband. During the later years of the Pantheon’s rule, she was conscripted into labor for temple construction, a shift that placed further strain on already limited resources. She witnessed the increasing imbalance between divine demand and mortal survival. Wages were reduced under religious obligation, medical care was inaccessible to many, and appeals for aid often went unanswered. These conditions affected her family directly, including the illness that cost her son his eye and the refusal of temple authorities to assist her grandchild, Maya.

Death in Ocularis

Following the capture of Gabriel by Oculus agents and his imprisonment in Ocularis, Aria made repeated attempts to gain access to him. She was denied entry and forcibly removed on multiple occasions. She died in Ostagar before learning of his escape. The circumstances of her death were attributed to exhaustion and accumulated strain.

This event remained a private matter within Gabriel’s life and was rarely addressed in public record.

Symbol in History

Within The Aurellian Dynasty, Aria is remembered as a figure of personal significance rather than political influence. Her life has come to represent the experience of ordinary people during the final years of divine rule. Her likeness is recorded within the Imperial Necropolis, accompanied by an inscription ordered by Gabriel Aurellian:

“Her kindness shaped the new world.”

Legacy

Aria’s life influenced Gabriel Aurellian’s views on divine authority and the role of mortals within the world. The conditions she endured and the circumstances of her death are often cited in connection with his rejection of divine rule and his later policies as Emperor. Though she did not live to see the establishment of the Aurellian Empire, her place within its historical narrative remains fixed through her relationship to its founder and the conditions that shaped his rise.
